Most power stations will be paying between 23 and 28.00 a ton for ARBO or crap tree surgery chip as we all call it !!

You do seem to have a bee in your bonnet with power stations buying woodchip, why?

I would always sell to the highest bidder so they would get it all day long!

Not quite sure what your on about there !

Tree surgery chip or ARBO as the power station call it is the lowest value wood chip. If you produce G30 to G50 spec chip with a lower moisture content and higher percentage of woody material they will pay more for it.

However the chances are if you are producing G30 you'd be selling it to smaller installations anyway like industrial estates or hospitals an large country houses that will pay the best money.

I've sold thousands of tonnes of chip to powerstations, I was pointing out the aggregators that are worth dealing with for the author of this thread and they are AHS and SHREDCO.

Now you have my interest, can you explain the difference between g30/50 and why such a price difference from £8-9 a tonne as you offer and £21-28 ton as ARBO chip as you class it can achieve at a powerstation etc.

Clearly if we can get this higher price then business sense means get it to the client that will give your business the best return. So if a haulier could shift for say £9 a ton and the above price is achievable then why don't we all just sell to the top bidder as you can still clear £11-19 a ton if you see what I'm saying?

No mate...21-28 a ton is delivered in...

Take away the haulage around 10.00 a ton sometimes more, then the loading and you start to get nearer the 10.00 a ton mark.

-------

The like of AHS and SHREDCO as aggregators obviously make between 2-5 a ton on the chip.

--------

You will not be able to sell direct to large power generators they just will not deal with you. You could however search out smaller installations BUT this is where chip quality becomes more important hence the reason tree surgery chip or ARBO generally only goes to power stations.

G30 is a 30mm screened chip with a moisture content of less than 30%. You will not achieve a G30 size chip with your average 6" chipper. Your chipper is designed for waste reduction where as biomass chippers as designed to produce a product and cost a hell of alot of money. Like most things there is a cross over in some areas with some chippers producing a reasnoble quality of chip.

To many slivers or oversize pieces blocks the conveyers on some systems.

Bascially your average tree surgeon is much better off selling there woodchip to the likes of Mrs Jones, golf courses and landscapers where they will get much better money. HOWEVER if you produce more than you can shift, have good access, a means to load 14' high lorries and just want the chip gone then a few hundread quid per lorry load is a nice bonus every now and then.

The likes of AHS make there money because they shift about 3000 tons a week.

Hope that's a bit clearer.

Landscapers are the best payers..eg just collected 2 x 6m3 skip loads £100. As for ASH make sure you haggle a lot. They were comming to take a load of me £6 ton get talking to a mate 4 miles down the road and he gets £8.Ok only £2 ton but on a 27 ton load over a year thats a few quid.
