Tree surgeons landscapers firewood merchants builders scrap dealers are firmly in the sites of IR have been for the last 12 months I've insured myself against a tax investigation for the last 4 years I no of two people being investigated at present.

All though I run a legit company there always going to find something.

Tell me about it. They are investigating me, been going on for two years now. They are digging into all private accounts, isa's, asking for all sorts of stuff. Glad I had insurance. £4500 accountants bill so far

I don't know but at a guess if say they started to target certain business then realised who was turning over large volumes of cash.

Someone told me they target you if something flags up? Like a big change of income etc from one year to the next

They are getting round to checking up on everyone self employed. Its not if, but when!

Worst they found so far was 1600 in my private account. I sold a pool table/dining table combo, and they are saying its undeclared income. No paperwork, but used the money to buy another dining room table and chairs. They sting you whatever

Mate of my Dads was a plumber travelling down to London in the property boom making cash hand over fist..stupidly tried to hide it from the tax man who literally hounded him out of his home..
