I have a double cab ford ranger and would like to have the ability of putting a small 4" chipper onto thr back of my pickup. Normally I would be moving it around on my 10x5 trailer, if the trailer is full I'd like the ability to get the chipper home in one trip.

What type of winch and ramps are you using. I'd like a manual winch maybe mounded to the ladder rack above the tonneau cover, but I can see a problem with tha handle fouling against the cab.

What's the chipper? I haul my Jo Beau hand over hand up 2.5m folding ramps but I couldn't manage a CS100 by a long way as it's 50kg heavier.

im looking at a GTM chipper, probably similar to a Jo Beau M300. Not sure of the weight, just seen a quick demo today and fits my needs and budget.

Well mine's an M300; you just need a bit of rope with spaced knots for grip , stick one heel against the bottom of the opened tailgate and pull hand over hand. It'll cost you 15' of old rope!

Thanks for all your replays. I guess I'll try and pull it in by hand first if that does not work I can mount a winch as wicklamulla. Like that setup, very simple. Just need to sort out some ramps.

Could always set up a pulley block system (Chinese pulleys on ebay) and old climbing rope as craig did for his trailer

A couple of things to bear in mind.

The chipper's weight; my Jo Beau comes in at 145kg; I couldn't haul the CS100 at 195kg.

How is the ladder rack secured to the vehicle? Mine's an aftermarket one (Nissan stopped fitting their excellent ladder racks at factory to their shame) so is feebly bolted horizontally into the bodywork: to mount a winch on it the rack would need somehow to bear downwards on the gunwales of the buck else you'll rip the ladder rack off.
