Self employed climber rates.

Sorry if this has been asked before.

 

I'm a self employed climber with cs 30, 31, 38, 39, and 41. over 3 years experience, all my own saws, climbing and lowering kit etc. fully insured with employers liability.

 

I'm just trying to find out what the going rate is for a self employed climber.

I may be wrong but don't you have to have employers liability if your a company and your bringing in guys? If your a freelance surely you don't?

I was told by my insurance, even if your working for a company the minute you start telling people what to do they become your responsibility. Hence the employers liability!

If you are going in to climb for day for someone you are working for that company so they will have the employers liability policy as its there job regardless of whether you are telling the groundies what to do or not. If you are doing your own jobs on the side using guys to help you that's when you may need employers liability which is different from being a sub contract climber

I've had the same conversation with difference insurance companies and they tell me the same thing!

I sorted my insurance out with a company at the arb show.

 

As I work for myself I'm not prepared to take any chances!

 

The reason I asked was to find out the going rate for a freelance climber with all my own tickets and kit.

Not sure about rates in your neck of the woods but down here in Kent/ s e london the rate would range from £120 - £180 depending on ability and the amount of gear you supply, top end is a top climber supplying extra saws, rigging kit etc
