Kinky Throw Line

Just bought my first commercial throw line, a Marlow 2mm, as my bit of string tends to open up. When I rolled off several metres of the new line it kept kinking whatever I did with it. Does it have to be treated before use, e.g. washing ?

it needs to be stretched out. Tie one end to a tree then walk it out and give it a good bit of tension

Put a couple of wraps on the spine of a bina when you do it, it helps iron it out.

or just get the other half to iron it

As Steve says, then loop one end round a tree or two and pull it through under tension to get all the kinks out. Then before you put it away throw one end out as far as you can on an open field and then flake it into your storage as you pull it in under tension.

Pertinent to the above, when carting straw home, Dad always flung the made up the "tethers" off the back of the trailer, to drag behind through the dry clean stubble, it left them lovely and unkinky.

Then get a stein throwline cube I'd recommend one.
