Found on a oak I dropped last week.

 

I have no idea..... any one?

I think they're husqvarna 560xp's,don't trust them

I've seen plenty like the one on the right but the one on the left looks very unusual. In the past I've opened them up and you do find the wasp inside sometimes.

You can see where the grub has come out on the right hand one. We used to pull them off to throw at each other as kids.

 

Glad I wasn't the only one, still lob them at the other half when walking, just get a look of distain and a threat of no tea:thumbdown:

 

Oak Apples down here in Hertfordshire and Kent as a kid!

The one on the left is indeed an oak apple gall, but the one on the right is a marble gall. They are caused by different types of wasp. The galls themselves are basically plant material that the tree produces as a reaction to enzymes that the grubs secret when eating into the buds.
