It depends on the solid roof system you are going to fit, my parents is made from an alluminium frame with insulated boards and a resin tile type thing, it's from a company that specialist in these roofs.

Did your parents have to have test holes dug to check the depth of the footings or soil samples taken before any works were agreed?

I had mine priced up and it came in at similar money to your parents, that's when I put the vito on it!

No test holes or anything like that, theres is only 2 sided with glass and one solid wall, it is a wooden frame and had a poly to roof.

I just wondered what roofs they are replacing

As we have a glass roof, the glass is top spec and you don't really hear wind or rain, doex not get to hot or cold either

Do the other roofs require planning?

nope, it becomes an extension once one of these roofs is fitted, if I've read the info on them correctly!

That's what I had heard. A friend of mine is an architect technician (retired) but he keeps up with a bit of work now and then and there are regulations concerning the area of glass, brickwork pillars, footings and insulation requirements under new regulations. It all gets very complicated if you follow the guidelines.
