Yep and then all the junkies and piss heads were taken off job seekers and put on the sick making the stats look better.

That's right....

In Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales 1 in 4 people are on sickness benefit!

Not 1 in 4 of those on benefits but 1 in 4 of the total population.

What was the real cost of Thatcher and co closing the coal mines?

The Torys have never liked the working man/class and anyone who thinks otherwise frankly is delusional imho.

Are you saying that Thatcher made 1 in 4 people ill in Merthyr?

What I am saying is that when Thatcher closed the coal mines it had a huge knock on effect.

A significant proportion of the people who are on sickness benefit there have substance/alcohol issues.

Social poverty and deprivation are fertile breeding grounds for all sorts of nasty stuff.

It's very depressing how so many are keen to provide excuses and scape goats for all those who side step their personal responsible.

Nothing is ever anyone fault, all the fault of the bankers or the government:001_rolleyes:

Not sure on your understanding of capitalism, but huge handouts to a single group is not normally part of the model.

Are you saying Margaret Thatcher wasn't a capitalist? Capitalists/internationalists use all sorts of cunning to win power! If she thought I was mug enough to fall for cunning plan and vote Tory for the rest of my life as a gesture of gratitude she had another thing coming!

I agree in part but if a community goes into decline theres a higher chance of people using drugs or drink to cope with loosing there jobs and the added stress this provides so yes by closing the mines could have this impact.

People make there own choices so its down to them what thy stick in there bodies!

Im sure you can come up with a link to contradict this:001_tt2:

But when the mines were open the miners told us it was such an awful job and made them ill, I guess we can't win.
