i had a nr miss the other day, i finished my tree and went to chip with some other lads, i was a good distance away from the tree another climber was in, a combination of wind and unlucky bounching of branches a dead bit of scots pine was cut off (3 meters long and 6inches at the cut point) and virtually tickled y back as i was bent over chiping!!!

and i guess you all rember my mate kev who got crushed by the crack willow, thankfully hes made a excellent recovery and is starting to walk again now!!!!!

Hyptnotised what an idiot by the look and sound of things he was cutting the hinge away one handed while it was falling. Talk about nowhere to run. Only in the US!!!

Be safe dudes two tree workers killed this year within 20 miles of me. One cut his head off

One cut his head off? Holy moly. How did that happen?

There was a story in the news a few summers back:Apparently, a man was using a chainsaw on a ladder, his wife was suporting the ladder, or somesuch. The man lost his balance and swooped the saw in an arc and cut through his wife's head.

Glad to hear your mate is recovering well.

Crack willow is all we ever get alongside rivers! really do need our wits about us we often are not felling from a nice flat piece of ground, with text book escape routes.

had this one last week.

i basically rigged the tree down to 15 foot as it was over a fence and got lazy on the felling cut...should of bore cut it an other example of cutting corners at the end of the day when your tired.

Landed exactly where i was standing making the back cut and scared the crap outa me when it started splitting up the middle.... didnt realy realise at first what was going on so just ran, glad i did!

Here are some pictures of a barberchaired ash that I pulled off of one of the arborist forums several years back. Perhaps they will prove useful to someone.

This looks like a rather shallow birdsmouth too.

Would you expect the risk of a barberschair to be as great if the cut was lower down in the "toffee" area?
