iphone is the worst option for satnav; where the Nokia Lumias score way better (the old N8 satnav was even better). Only ever had tomtoms in car, garmin?

So you reckon the Tomtom is still a good bit of kit TCD?

We've got TomTom and it's good but map upgrades are silly expensive (about £40 IIRC) and won't fit the upgraded maps onto the device. I bought a satnav with maps of the whole of Europe on it to be able to drive around a lot, now the maps are updated I can only choose between different areas of Europe on it at once. So couldn't, for example, take the satnav to drive through mainland Europe to Italy, without taking a laptop and changing the maps over to the "Southern Europe" pack before I left Switzerland.

I want a map, not directions, and use an inexpensive Tesco Hudl running Memory Map, mounted on a Ram mount.

Works a treat, and has a decent sized screen.

Hi

We got a Garmin Nuvi 56 LM from Halfords now £79 Lifetime updates for all of Europe & UK.

Can't fault it really, straight forward to use, good software & in use works really well.

Garmin have the best mapping software and user interface by far an all around better product

Agreed & the application runs fine on my MBP , dont know why Tom Tom seems to be favoured, updating seemed more complicated to me.

That said the European map was a 2.5Gb download but then its rather large area.
