Just water with a dash of vinegar and detergent will do the job but the commercial stuff has an alcohol in it which dries quicker and acts as an antifreeze.

 

Best to buy the proper stuff though as plain water in the washer bottle is implicated in the spread of legionella bacteria from the repeated heating and cooling cycles and the spray affects following drivers.

At 5 litres for around £2 from family bargains, is it really worth it??

Spot on and it has affected lorry drivers disproportionately, along with heart problems from sitting long periods without exercise and junk food many may be more susceptible plus they are on the road longer to breathe the aerosol.

 

It always amazes me when I drive out with our guys at the amount they spray onto the screen to clear off de icing salt and grime when often a short burst does the job.
