With a machine like that I would have thought your best bet would have been to offer your services within the trade, just forward details of your machine with the rates and copy of insurance off to all the tree surgeons in the areas you are prepared to travel to.

Aspenarb, yes i got a list in the house of all fencers/golf clubs/tree surgeons/builders that i will send letters to. I had this machine from last years June, i just haven't got time to put the ship in the sea yet. But this year i will be having a go for it. I estimate it will take me a good few years to get myself known. Focus must be on leaving a happy customers every time all the time.

Sending someone else around on your behalf seems a little lazy to me, part and parcel of getting a job is making yourself known to customers, which means dealing with them face to face. If your not motivated or social enough to represent yourself your setting yourself up for a big fall. I have quoted on jobs in the past and have being more expensive than other firms but have won the work because the other companies sent someone on their behalf because they couldn't be arsed turning up themselves. you will only succeed if YOU drive your business forward
