never clean the climbing kit, hang it up if its wet and the dehumidifier dries it out by morning, did it once with the pillow case thing when i first started out, but it nearly wrecked the machine..i dont see how the harness can get smelly, the only thing that gets ponky is the muffs:blushing:but a wet wipe round them does the trick:001_cool:

put it in a pillow case & put it in the washin machine but dont use any detergent including fairy liquid. pour boiling water into the draw to wash out any detergent/softener residue & run te machine with nothing in it. then put the harness or rope in with either nick wax tech wash or plain soap suds and place on another cycle. if harness is leather then use a water based dubbing/ conditioner.

cheers guys i think i'll just leave it to soak in the bath for a while with some hand wash detergent

the reason it got so pongy is i worked away from home for a week and it was a wet week, i had no where to dry my gear as i was living in a tent and it seemed to rain whenever i tried to dry stuff, when i did get home the smell was quite strong and the missus started complaining.

Hi I had a full body harness given to me and it was quite grubby so I soaked it in a bowl of Non bio hand wash powder hot water then I gave a it a good scrub and then used the hose to make sure all the soap was out . It came up really nice .

Nothing too strong to clean it as its a weight bearing harness you dont want to degrade the webbing .

Dogs Poo !!!! oo thats got to be a bad harness day :001_smile:

I wouldn't even use a hand wash detergent such as woolex, u don't want 2 know what goe's into them! and there is a chance tat even tis will degrade the webbing, or more woryingly the stitching!

beal rope wash or nickwax tech wash are both designed & tested for the job if ur feeling flash use rope proofer on your ropes after uve washed them & never have wet, heavy ropes again!

ive been doing it 4 years and highly recomend it to any1

if u have ur inspections done with me then just ask me 2 bring some when i come inspect ur kit, ive usually got a bottle or 2 of each in the car.
