2 Stroke Fuel lifespan

I've got pubes younger than some of the fuel I've been using and don't use any fancy oil.

No problems whatsoever.

I think the Internet has demasculated the populous to the point where big hairy lumberjack types now over analyse everything.

I have three grades of fuel.

1. Diesel

2. Petrol

3. Some wierd hibred lash up which I'm not sure of which may have two stroke oil plus both the above in but I can't sniff it any longer. Barbecue lighting fluid.

... dont know nothing about aspen, never seen it, never been offered it so cant comment onit...

If you're curious, have a gander through:

http://www.aspenfuel.co.uk

should answer any queries.

As an Aspen user, I recommend it. However, if I was cutting every day, it would be an expensive alternative to pump-premix. But I'm not cutting every day, and thus along with other benefits, I don't worry about how old the mix is, how accurately it was mixed, the fuel grade, ethanol content, the quality of the 2-stroke oil, nor the health of my cutting equipment. That's the long way of saying, "I'm an Aspen user and I'm happy with my addiction to a cleaner burn."

Hi, as has already been said, petrol starts to decay from the moment it`s refined so how is it possible to tell the condition of the stuff at the pump as you have no way of knowing how long it`s been lying in the tank at the filling station, specially in rural locations where the turnover may be less predictable. Does anyone have any thoughts on this ? Cheers

Exactly. Luckily throughout most of the UK there are now very few rural filling stations so most have a quick turnround.

The thing is, you have no means of knowing the quality of fuel you are getting, and it does change a lot.

Tesco petrol is turned around quickly once it gets to the pump, but in my opinion, is absolute rubbish. I see more problems from Tesco petrol than any other.

Hi, yeah, luckily it`s about 70 miles to my nearest Tesco. Up here there`s lots of small outlets and frankly if I didn`t read this forum it`s unlikely that I would have heard of the problem or Aspen.

Tbh from all that`s being said I`m more concerned about some of my other petrol powered machines, for which it would be totally impractical to consider running them on anything but pump fuel, cheers

Well I bought 5 litres of aspen today, ran my saws dry with the previous 2 stroke mix and refilled both with aspen. Fired them both up with no problems. Off to attack a few freshly downed oaks tomorrow, will let you know how I get on with it. Did feel a bit odd just refilling saws without mixing fuel though:-) Was a lot more time saving as I'm pretty anal when measuring exact mixes. Paid just over £18 for 5L, as I'm not cutting everyday I can live with the steep price, but for some of you guys who use a lot of fuel I think it's crippling expense.

Cheers.

Thanks Eddie for your pm, don`t know if you got my reply as it didn`t seem to work, anyway, I`m planning to use Aspen in the hedge cutters this year as that`s when I experience the biggest prob with fumes.

But from the practical point of view,to run a thirsty outboard or motorcycle [ not to mention a car ] on Aspen would cripple my bank account.

Technically these engines are more complicated, with much more to go wrong and much more expensive to repair than any chainsaw, but the principal is the same, so the whole debate has left me feeling a bit paranoid.

But there`s no doubt in my mind that after having investigated the ethanol in fuel issue in a bit more detail it would seem that the problem`s not going to go away, the list of materials that ethanol degrades is extensive and surprising, and the whole thing is seemingly all down to some misguided points scoring green policy........but of course I could be wrong, cheers

Hi Macpherson,

Thank you for trying Aspen, please let me know how you get on.

As said before Aspen solves different issues for different people storage, fumes or reliability of machinery.

I agree running it in a car or large outboard would not be practical but we suggest just using Aspen for storage.

Also I have a 5 litre can of Aspen4 in the boot of my classic car as back up if I run out of fuel. Better than tipping gone off fuel in to get me home!

If anyone has any questions give me a call 07568 108953 8:30-5:30 weekdays.

All the best

Eddie

Just bought some Aspen 4 and mixed it at 50:1 with Red Line Racing 2T oil . Put it in my 560 and it ran a treat . I guess the A/T took care of any adjustments , if at all they were needed . As I am semi retired now all my machines will now be run on Aspen .
