Flipline and lanyard

I am a real newbie and was wondering if when spiking

Is it best to take up a lanyard as a secondary line

Or is there a better system,

If you mean spiking on the pole for the final part of a dismantle then yes, choke your main line round the stem and use your lanyard or flip line to position yourself.

The advice on here is great, installs a bit of confidence

Have done I bit of climbing since my 38, but not to much spiking

If you're doing a tall tree you'll need your main line up with you for lowering the saw down to your groundie to refill. I use my lanyard connected to my side rings as my main attachment to the trunk and my climbing line connected to my bridge as the back up.

Ah yeah i have seen guys take up the main line,some times double wrapped around the stem, and flip up along with the flipline,

So what's the protocol here for if you're on a stem, with your lanyard round the trunk, and your main line underneath, and you do yourself a mischief and need to bail fast?

 

My options are pulleysaver, fig8 softlocked on a single line, or buy a wrench just for that scenario.

 

I reckon you should always have a quick descent option for if you need it, but how many others dont have one on a chog down?

gaff out slide down stem using nose as a brake.

 

or alternatively bail out on main line through pulleysaver choked around stem.
