H&S Standards Arb

Read through the pages of the below link and please tell me if you were to stick rigidly to these recommendations, how a one man band and one employee would ever get out of the yard and actually do some work :mad1:

You could, and I bet bigger companies actually do, employ a full time safety officer whos sole job is to fill in and implement these recomendations

Hi Dean a few years ago we bought all that stuff off the AA if I remember correctly for about £50 you got a CD and a folder you just put your company name on it. All you have to do is revue it every six months

Its still a pain:bored:

I very much doubt a one man band (with one employee) could follow all of this to the letter and still make any sort of profit.

This imo is why so many people dont take on employees and try to get away with most of it by using 'subbies'/ self employed persons.

I know there is a good reason for some H&S but imo it doesnt target the right people, if someone is a total cowboy blagger they will take no notice whatsoever about any rules regs and certs etc.

Anyway I'm gonna try and stay out of this thread since it will no doubt cause me to go off on one and do a bit of ranting! :001_smile:

Ooo...ooo.. a soapbox moment!! Yaaaaaaayyyy, my favourite. :thumbup1:

Dean, to be honest, don't pay too much attention to it. It's not much more than a "hoop jumping" exercise, that holds little resemblance to anything other than political self gratification.

I mean, if you read the footnote on each page.... the doc is dated 2003!!! EH?? What's THAT all about?? :confused1:

And that's not even including the pointless, unclear and nonsensically ambiguous criteria definitions!!

OR, the fact that the listed constituent members of the "Joint Industry Working Party" (or AFAG as it is more widely known these days) is mostly made up of directors/senior managers/stock holders etc, of some VERY big corporate entities, so therefore exhibits an ENORMOUS amount of "conflict of interests".

In all reality, It's just another indication of how far behind the times and out of touch with the industry certain organisations are, and also yet another reminder of exactly how little these bodies do in order to accurately regulate and represent the industry as a whole. :banghead:

Most H & S is a doodle, it really isn't that difficult, just use your common sense.

Unfortunatly i've worked with those who make H&S hard work this is counter productive and doesn't improve safety in the slightest.

Where as simple health and safety that is easy to implement and relies on common sense improves saftey at work.
