Play in trailer brake ram

The ram that activates the trailer brake on my indespension plant trailer has got a bit of play in it through wear and tear, is there bushes bearings inside that can be replaced? or do you have to but the whole lot?

I would not but the whole lot bud ...it will hurt .

When you say a bit how much movement does it have?

Sounds like the damper to me. They are about 30quid and take 15mins at most to replace

It's not dangerously bad, only a couple of mil, I wanna rectify if before it worsens. Don't really want to buy a new one as they cost a fortune!

Are you referring to vertical movement when in the normal rest position or horizontal movement as it slides in and out ?

Yes vertical. When it is off the van I can move it up and down, but no play left to right.

Who is the hitch head made by ? Trailparts used to list parts Aw d diagrams to many hitch units

About £200 for a complete 2000kg one £350 for a 3500kg one. Sometimes it's worth it for the new hitch damper and tight tube also quicker to fit.

Trust me it's much cheaper than the hassles of an insurance claim if you loose a trailer whilst towing !
