I tuned in to axe men for the first time in ages the other night,and what a load of old potatoes.

Some of them should be nominated for an oscar.

Saw an episode of the very early Axe Men prog the other day . It was the Phil logging company against Rhygard etc . Hand felling big timber on a slope and the guy was describing the various hazards involved . Said this one has the potential to barber on me and sure enough it split up about 15 feet or so taking his saw with it he leaps out of the way bumping into the camera man and apologizing . Staged to a degree but far more documentary like compared with the current load of old bollox with all the shouting and mock fighting .

 

I was actually watching season 1 axe men on DVD last night and it is a documentary. Very good watching compared to now. Showed how it is important to sharpen properly and different felling techniques. Not a staged near miss to be seen. Heard that Americans don't like boring factual documentaries. They need them glammed up. Stupid horn honking sound effects on ice road truckers is the worst.

I agree, although something as mundane as watching a lorry driver deliver something where the only twist is that the road is covered in snow isn't going to be the most scintillating viewing without some added 'drama' such as cracking noises from the frozen lake, a worried expression on the drivers face, or a minor crash into a snow drift. Think about that Eddie Stobard bore-fest we had a while back. Sort of a thawed out IRT. Crap.

Oh and while we're at it. 'Moonshiners' is just ridiculous, it reminds me of the Dukes of Hazard but with hard liquor.

IMO it was best when it was Pihl crew Vs Browning Vs Gustaphson. Some of the old school guys working for them were awesome. I stopped watching when Gabe Rygarrd came on the scene as he is just a total plonker!

Saw one of them the other day with the triac crew ? Bloke loses a real off his machine on road boss going mental telling the camera it was all due to him tracking over a rock ! Not a mention of the slickest tracks known to man or drive sprockets that resemble idlers and half the track pads broken ! ! Does your head in when you can see there talking bowlarks
