What do you guys pay for

Where are you based? Wages seem to vary massively between regions.

Is that kind of service equivalent to a climbers wage I'd say yes.

 

Just because you can climb doesn't make you worth more money than a groundsman that's only 1/3 of the service you offer to the customer.

 

Also a slight rant I hate people that only 'climb' once you've finished climbing chip up rake up lift logs and go home. These people usually have harnesses full or strops,crabs and useless gear hanging off the harness.

For my circumstances my previous posts and rates work, the reasons why

 

Without my climber no tree work gets done therefore no groundsman. My groundsmen all work extremely hard and work as a perfect team with climber. However they still can't climb the tree!

My climber comes with all own climbing equipment, saws. Truck and another chipper if required. He is also first to muck in on the ground to get job done. Yes not one of those with endless crap hanging of his harness.

 

Therefore worth to me far more.

Just read through this whole thread....as a climber with my own business leaving Barbados and coming with my wife and family to live in England....seems like I have a lot to look forward too...for climbing and groundwork the proof of the pudding is in the cohesiveness of the two ( climber/groundman combo )...right now I am working with a groundie of very little experience, he can test my wills....my good team disbanded early last year...I have struggled since to train this guy....I look forward to working in the UK with people who share the same passion as myself....I will be getting my tickets and will get all my saws and rigging gear in tact....bringing that stuff over is not an option....I like hanging here....I get along well with UK folks....lol...so from all of this I think a great groundie, who works well with a climber should get paid well, they are invaluable....

I'm self employed, cs30, 31, 38, 39, Bali card, water rescue, unsigned van, own saws, climbing kit, PPE and a fair bit of other gear too. I've only got a years experience though, so charge £80 day rate. I do graft hard, usually 6/7 days a week!

 

Am I not charging enough? I'm in Sheffield area..

I'd say that's to cheap I've my ground tickets and charge more than that a day. Do yourself a favour and charge more

So for £180.00 you expect him all kit and truck to fill? I presume he charges more for a chipper?

My argument is a good groundsman is worth as much as a good climber

£90-£120 depending on experience

 

 

My way people charge £70-90 mainly because the climbers mostly charge between £100-£150. I guess the problem for groundies is there not a massive cost between that and the climber. Most companies including myself only really hire climbers unless it's a felling contract of course. Mainly because it gives me two options one saves me climbing and two because I have employees too I can do paperwork or other tasks.
