ukulian, shorts are fine as the finished items are only about 2' long.

 

 

they are to be the handles of oars sliding in to the end of a long carbon fiber shaft. the plastic ones give really bad blisters so wooden ones are preferred.

This log was between 4 & 5 foot. :)

We have lots of green ash round logs avaliable, if you can find someone with kilm and mill.

Unfortunately our sawmill is broken at the moment.

I have a piece of air dried 4in by 8in 6 ftlong.

Milled about 5 years ago, barn stored.

If you ever venture to Essex dropin and have a look.

I also have a piece of ugly walnut milled 20 years ago you might be able to get something out of.

i would be able to chop them in half then, perfect.

 

please let them turn out to be 2 1/2".

 

2 1/4" might be ok too.

 

Sorry Steve, thickest board is only a fraction over 2" :(
