Was reading an interesting thread on tree buzz about how just removing dead wood on pines can make new wind tunnels and cause wind throw and lost branches.... I recently dead wooded one of the bigger Scottys by the house for a Rec climb tree and it was the only one to loose big limbs in the recent storms...I've seen on other pines that have been worked on over the years as well.

Maybe thinning/tip reducing them after a dead wooding is not a bad idea.
