Anyone have one of these from machine mart ,my electric splitter getting tied now and I like the idea of this being portable take any where without much space taken up in transport .

Am not a big seller of logs either just myself and a handful of local customers.

If it's a Clarke branded machine, for goodness sake sign up for their mailing list in store (possibly online too).

Wait a few weeks and you'll soon get emails and postcards allowing you to buy the Clarke range VAT free.

Even if you're VAT registered you save something like 16% if my memory serves me.

Of course it'll be Chinese made tat, but at a price much better than the tat made elsewhere.

If it were sold somewhere else with a trendy brand name it'd be double the price..:001_rolleyes:

Ok looks through my tired eyes to be a Chinese 'Loncin' type engine. Not necessarily a bad thing since you can always look out for an equivalent Honda engine on eBay so when it inevitable implodes you can replace it with a decent one. The rest will be a gamble, but nothing that can't be tightened up on delivery and checked regularly. Chinese crap has a habit of disassembling itself in my experience.

I was looking at these the other day, for the price they look ok. May be issues with build quality but at the end of the day it's an engine (chonda type but not as bad as people think) a hydraulic pump, some hoses, valve block and a ram so not much to go wrong and if so easily replaced from a hydraulic parts suppliers. Things can be 're-tightened or re-welded if needed so I think it's worth a punt. It may well need some repairs etc but for the price you can take that on the chin! Mount it on a cheap small trailer axle and you have a cheap towable splitter. May not be the quality of the more expensive brands but if money is an issue then could well be worth a punt!
