Hi Lux is the best pickup for trouble free running . I'm on my 3rd one , they also hold their money well . Only my opinion though .

Compared to others they are uncomfortable and you feel every bump in the road. But as a work vehicle you can depend on , nothing beats them.

I've been looking for a truck, looking to spend around £5000. I've seen a few decent 2007 Rangers, 2006 Navaras at around 100k miles for this price, but any comparable age/mileage Hilux always seems to be at least two grand more, mostly £3000.

 

So, on to my questions:

 

• Are Hiluxs actually worth the extra money?
  
• Is a used Hilux less likely to cost me at MOTs/services than a Ranger of the same age?
  
• Would stretching to the extra £2-3k be more beneficial in the long run, re. depreciation, running costs, repair costs?
  

 

 

 

Most people selling other pickups will tell you there like a hilux or same as a hilux, they set the bar, there not "indestructable" as everyone will tell you if you buy one.. but there the best of whats out there, check out hpoc.co.uk

Buy nice or buy twice, the extra money is worth it.

 

I was told in Africa if you want to go to the desert for the day take a Nissan, if you want to come back take a toyota.

With that said I was told the same thing a couple of weeks later and Nissan had been interchanged with landrover.

Great trucks but not so good for towing as have a measly towing capacity. After owning one for over a year now I will say not to overlook the Isuzu rodeo. Mine has been great, done around 14k and all its cost me is some new tyres, very agricultural 3l engine and not fast by any means but bags of torque so great for towing and averages 32-34 mpg

The towing limit was 2200kg, but that has been updated to 2800kg, so not a big difference amongst most of the competition.

Plus you get reliability, off-road ability and a higher resale value.

Yes it has been increased but only in recent years so not a lot of good on the op's budget

When i was looking for a pick-up, i was all set for a Defender...then I spoke to my friend who is the manager of a sand quarry.

The only truck he will buy for the company is a Hilux, as they cost so much less over the life of ownership than anything else they have had.

 

I'd say the hilux drives better on roads than the L200 and is a million times better on road than a defender.

I know a couple of people with Navaras and they have had a number of problems and also said the paint is ridiculously thin.
