You tree men are all so greedy, i go log splitting for £180 a day and am more than happy with that. Any more and i would feel like a con man

Not so much greedy, but if you have tree surgery in the book for 500 quid a day, it's not worth spending a day splitting for 180.

Fair enough. What machine do you run, and roughly what output would you say average ( including slow days, tougher wood, raining, you know...)

Trouble I find as a contractor is accounting for those days when you're servicing plant and kit, or doing the vat, or out buying a new splitter, or welding up a new/broken blankedy blank, it's endless...

So those days still need billing, or you doing it for nowt.

That's why if folk charged a proper rate this industry would be in the state its in, some people will work for such low rates it's unbelievable. I don't worry about them anymore I just sit back and laugh and sip Champaign in the Alps, ho, ho, ho .
