I was gonna get the red top but as I use a winch in my Landy I was advised to get the yellow top as more heavy duty than the red top.

Thing is the more " heavy duty " it is the more grunty the alternator needs to be . Taking it too the silly , you could have a battery that is so big and heavy duty tjhat the standard alternator wont be able to charge it fully and eventually it will be low on power ....

I was told yellow or red are fine off a standard alternator. And no that wasn't by the sales person.

Ive posted several times about how good these batteries are

I have a 56AH red top on a case 4230 tractor for 14 plus years. Yes its the same battery. Its never failed to start it even when temperatures are below freezing and tractor has been stood for 6+ weeks. Had a fuel problem with the tractor that is the only time its failed to start it.

Before then I was using 90Ah big heavy batteries that are normally used on these tractors, I was replacing every 2 years. In 1999 when I bought it it was expensive at £139. But I would of bought 7 of the normal type in that time at £?

I now use a little yellow top 38AH on my ford escort 1.8td van. It too is supposed to be 80Ah or so I think.

Buy fit and almost forget these batteries unless corrosion on the terminals or charging system fails.

Im not an agent or seller either. Now I only replace with optima if one will fit.

Red tops good for start any thing, farm near me has one on a old MF fe35 that stands for along time I have even put it on a Ford 7600 before now and starts that easy.

Has you Defender got good earthing point and terminals had many a problem with cheap terminals on tractors and land rover.
