report it to who?

My home.

In the past google latitude allowed you to see the position of "friends" on google map, if the gps was not on then it estimated the position from cell or wifi data. I am not sure why it was withdrawn but it worked quite well in the south east and yes you had to opt in and only nominated friends could see you. Not as good as an emergency beacon but okay for seeing you are safely en route home.

I have an android phone so apple apps are no good to me.

Find my iPhone can be used on a desktop, iPad or iPhone. I expect Find Friends is the same and can be seen/used on a desktop.

It can't track you if you have GPS turned off, that's pretty obvious really.

Simply put, it is a map with a marker on it showing your current location. Accuracy can vary according to signal coverage etc but is normally very good. If I wanted an accurate system that worked regardless of poor coverage I wouldn't rely on a mobile phone app.

If you want a system that your missus can check to see where you are this will work. If you don't want your missus to always know where you are this is a disaster waiting to happen. :D

I wouldn't let my missus use it because she would be constantly quizzing me about where I was going, why did I go there etc etc. Not that she can't trust me, she's just bloody nosy!

Our local TO has some system that calls or texts his mobile ever half hour, he has to reply to it within a few minuets, if he doesn't reply the red flag goes up and a search party is assembled.

Haha is that because he's on peoples hit list for not allowing much work on tpo'd trees?

Basically an individual sends a text message to the website requesting call back, website sends them a text at an agreed time that they must respond to. If they don’t respond the website automatically contacts a recorded emergency contact(s).

It’s a free service giving 8 opportunities per month. Or paid service at £2 per month with unlimited use.
