I'm considering making a more aggressive set of dawgs for my 550xp, I was cutting over bar length sycamore yesterday and the standard dawgs were a bit slippery in the bark.

I'm planning on splitting an old bar to make them, I'm hoping it'll be rigid enough to do the job.

Has anyone made their own? Is there anything that needs consideration?

If it works I may try converting my 576 to double dawgs.

I admire your determination but getting the inner and outer points to line up When the inner and outer have different mountings would be a challenge . Would it not be less hassle to by a set ?

Templates made out of hardboard, perspex or similar material should be ideal to get the desired shapes and alignment.

Do you mean getting doubles to line up Stubby? The 550 is only going to be single, just a bit pointy-er :)

I thought it might be an interesting challenge, I've got the tools and time to try it.

As a project fine but buy a sheet of silver steel, salvaging bits is often more work than its worth

Ah yes . I thought you mean double dawgs . Not so critical with one . I would go for 2.5mm stainless .

I've got access to a few old diesel tanks so materials for playing with won't be an issue.
