ha ha i do like my landrovers our family has always had them starting with a series 1 so i sort of know how well they start.I just cant believe they are ditching them next year.....

In the 60's men were shorter than they were now so the need to update so people can actually fit into them now without being some kind of contortion artist:laugh1:

So it does, I've never had a light come on though even at 10 below like the other year.

If you hit the key before the plugs have done there stuff they won't go a second time until the ecu is happy they have cooled. Some modern glow plugs heat in less than 2 seconds and on lots of engines are operating when the engine is running to clean up the emissions and stabilise the combustion. Our td5 was a pig to start if you pressed the throttle and rushed the glow.

I was pulling my hair out at the poor quality of premium brand batteries we tried the lot including over priced Varta stuff all a waste of time. We monitor and load test generator batteries every six months then we hit on Bristol batteries own brand called Avon. We have used these exclusively for 4 years and they come up with 100% performance on every service yet to replace any for any reason. The only other brand we found good was Bosch but too expensive. The other poor performers were yuasa, hoppecke always had stick black gunk floating on the cells.

Managed to squeeze a 115 Ah 065 into my Defender - not failed yet.

Any 100 Ah tractor battery will fit quite easy and be a big improvement on the standard 75Ah.

Hi,

Agreed, the standard battery is somewhat pathetic for a 2.5 litre diesel, I have a CTek battery charger & it seems to keep batteries in good state of charge, very good charger with numerous benefits including not having to disconnect.

I run a 80hp case tractor. It used to get through them 100AH numb tractor batteries every two years until 15 years ago. I put a 55AH Optima red top on it. Never failed since.

Excellent cold start power, expensive initial outlay. I think I paid £139 then. But 15 yrs is 7.5 battery's of the other type.

It really is a no brainer lads. Unless someone can tell me otherwise. I'm not an agent either.

Hi

I heard Optima are a good brand, think they are deep cycle batteries so more lead available than your average vehicle battery & seem quite conservatively rated, well worth the extra expense.

I fully charge my vehicle batteries every 6 months with my CTek charger & avoid excessive cranking if it dosn't start, if voltage reaches 10.5 volts on 12 V battery it will be knackered & wont re-charge properly. I can always jump off my 357 Amp/hr solar battery but never needed it .
