I looked at getting one but reliability put me off then I looked at getting a Volvo XC90 but decided I wasn't old enough so stuck with the pinin

Just to complicate the issue I had a hire toerag w12 for 6 months in Germany. It got properly abused on and off road. Hammered to an inch of its life on the autobahn and following tanks around the training area as well as just having some fun:) It never missed a beat apart from lots of punctures due to picking up empty ammunition cases (not likely to be a problem for you or the cars fault). The tracking used to get pushed out when thrashing it off road but you wouldn't drive your own car like that (it spent a bit of time in the air). It went back with 9000 km on the clock the agent had to check because he said it looked like it had done 90000!

I was impressed tbh.

3.0tdi is a good engine and the w10 tdi is awesome, but they do seem to have a poor rep for reliability!

Steer well clear of the patrols, they drink like you wouldn't believe!

My old man had the 3.0 tdi,(57 plate) had it from 5,000 miles and he part ex'd in at 192,000 miles. Can honestly say best car he has ever had! Never let him down, he had a UJ go but that was it! If his was anything to go on id recommend them to anyone!

I think a lot of it boils down to maintenance and how well it's been looked after. If you buy a new one or ex demo and look after it, service on the schedules, any warranty recalls done etc like the above post it'll do you well and be reliable.

But with these type of vehicles and the type of buyer they attract normally the maintenance isn't high on the owners priority. Looking like your doing well on the school run is more so!

I knew someone that purchased a Touareg, realised it was going to cost the earth and sold it on sharpish!

Unless you really require 3.5T towing cap a Honda CRV will be a great car.

I recently was looking at buying a 4x4 for myself with 3.5T capacity. I knew I wanted a Discovery commercial and I was buying it outright when starting up my business. I could of stretched myself to a Disco 3 commercial but settled on an older 2003 TD5 disco 2 commercial. Why? Because I know it won't cost me the earth to keep on the road, don't have to pay main dealer prices for servicing and it still does everything I want it to do.

Honda CR-V good vehicle worst thing I did was sell my 53 plate disco van a year ago and buy d4. You take the d2 in to garge when it gets a bit loose every 6 months and you get a bill for £500. You take the d4 in when there's nothing wrong with it and it comes back with a quote for £3500.00 every time. I could easily spend £500 a month on repairs and service ( mo re than the depreciation on a new one )

Exactly. I can look after my D2. Whereas D3 and D4 it's vehicle off the chassis for half the jobs and special service tools.

If I go for for a new disco in a few years it'll be a lease through the business. I won't fund one personally!
