Moral of the story, the Home Counties are very affluent, nobody will pay for waste wood.

I've got tonnes of conifer, willow etc in my field,we live in an area where sweet chestnut grows as coppice like wheat (SW France) Farmers sell it in the winter as a cash sideline.

I'd either have to pay to get rid of my softwood or I'll put a match to it one day.

Thats a terrible shame and dreadful waste really - if you were near me I'd be delighted to take it all off you. I love burning softwood and I think we really should educate more people to do the same for the sake of the environment.

It's not about the environment, or in fact maybe it is, it's about transport, sweet chestnut grows on a 10(or so) year cycle, easy to fell, easy to process, my softwood would cost more to process than I could sell it for.

Oh, I see, interesting. So theres a good supply of easy to process sweet chestnut that makes the softwood unviable. Its a real shame if theres no way to make use of it though.

Its all down to logistics Lloyd, softwood arb waste is worthless in the south but by the time you transport it north, east or west in its gotten expensive. A trip in the artic to Pembrokshire from here would be a two day jaunt and £600 in fuel. The only other way would be find someone running a bulker bin back your way empty. You certainly would not be paying for the wood.
