This all sounds like fighting talk, there is only one way to go.....handbags at dawn....No...No....wrong forum :blushing: Timed cuts, same bit of wood, same saw, same bar different filters.

Lets quantify the improvement, better do three big cookies on each set up and see what is what.

My take on it is that if the filter allows more air through and if the engine can take more air, it will make an improvement.

The air is drawn by the vacuum in the crankcase formed by the piston rising. The limiting factors are the shape of the inlet port, the size of the port, the inlet duration, the choke of the carb, restrictions in manifold sizes and finally.....the air filter.

The engine can draw a FINITE amount of air due to the vacuum formed in the crankcase - I guess this is what Sawtroll was saying.

Removing an air filter does make a difference - I have never cut like this but it does raise the revs significantly so it should have some sort of effect but until it is tested, we don't know by how much!

This should be similar to fitting a larger carb to a machine.

Most open minded and rational comment i've heard on this thread! The saw must be standard though.

Just been asked by a customer for availability on the filter and cover.

The cover has a different part number from what husky UK list on their IPL, they list 587 24 87-01 whereas 522 95 96-01 is what is showing as the 562xp cover which husky UK do have in stock!

If anyone could do ma a favour and confirm the above is 100% correct in regards to 522 95 96-01 it would be very much appreciated, as I have only gone off internet info rather than seeing the thing first hand.

They dont have any of the yellow filters but do have the 80um black one availabe :001_rolleyes:

There is two part no.s for the 562XP top cover, 522959601 and in the 2014 list the no. is 587248701 both cover are the same, the 2014 cover just has a new decal on it giving starting instructions, this part is not available in the UK, however you can order pt no. 522959601 they may not have stock at the moment but at least you can order it.

If they did, why have high-tops?

They are for "heavy duty" (= dusty) conditions, where the filter surface will be partially covered by dust sooner. This means you can run a bit longer before you have to clean the filter.

It also means that you can use "flocked" filters, without worrying if the saw is getting enough air.

Anyway, even if you don't think it'll improve power, my 560 says otherwise!
