Was wondering what experiences people had with the Stihl 064, good saw bad saw? What size bar will it run? Is it worth putting the 54mm 066 top end on it? Many thanks in advance.

064 is a good, bulletproof saw. Not much advantage to be gained by uprating to the 066, definitely not worth the price of genuine.

It will pull a 36" bar but not quickly. It is at home on a 24 or 25" bar.

A former boss of mine had a 064 and he used to swear by it. As others have said, it certainly was a bullet-proof machine. From memory, I think he ran a 25inch bar on it most of the time.

I recently acquired it, it came with a 20" bar but I bought it with the intention of using it as my 'large' saw so a bigger bar is definitely on the cards, am tempted to go 30". Really impressed with the weight, I was expecting a bit of a lump but handles just nicely. May look at putting a 066 top end on it in the future but as it is 'if it aint broke'.

I honestly love mine!

Just today bought a 36" bar to go on the 660 and going to put the 30" off that onto the 064 :thumbup1: instead of the 25" its on now
