Tom D out of interest are you using the later spec G30 screen with the sliver breakers as below, I have just fitted ours and done 3 days chipping with it, I always thought Big Red was a brilliant build

Phil Newson of PR Newson has a big Jenz 30" capacity (I think) that has been installed on a 15+ ton 360 tracked excavator

No I just have a regular screen... How do you find that one?

oops my mistake, not used it yet! will let you know next time chipping fuel wood, just on brash reduction last job poss out next week for fuel

That looks very very slow for a 30" chipper.

 

If the operator didn't pick so much off the stack in the first place, he wouldn't have to scat it all over the floor and double handle it, mixing in rubbish from the ground in the process. Feed the chipper little and often; very few operators do - they just ram it in there and then have to wait for the machine to get through it. Very inefficient. They should be seasoned forwarder drivers first!

Hi Guys. I don't usually post on here but I thought I should come to my guys defence. I remember this job as it was me taking the video. We often double handle timber when feeding our chippers as it helps remove contamination not add to it. When this job was complete we found lots of stones, a metal bar and a hydraulic hose. The forwarder driver who stacked the wood there clearly needed to spend some time loading a chipper !

 

As you can see from the video the poor bloke had to pick his way very slowly through to stack as it was rock hard timber and full of rubbish.

 

Back to the thread. We run a twin engined 500hp plus 100hp tracked machine.

Chip quality depends on machine set up and the quality of maintenance. You are unlikely to produce a G30 from whole tree / brush however as it will contain too many fines.

Hi Phil

I totally understand your mans double handling to shake out the stones. We get the same problem with the wood that's brought to us. I think the biggest problem is when a lorry clears up the bottom of the stack. Most are carefull but we certainly have one rogue one.

Anyway your chipper twin engined 500 hp, presumably that is the total of the blower and chipper. What's the split between the two? It seems to me the stress is coming in very quickly as if the engine is down on power. That prompted my comment not the handling which I understand. It is a 30 inch?
