the best thing to have thrown in the first aid box is hydrogen peroxide....6%.... as soon as you get pricked pour it on the site BEFORE YOU PULL THE THORN OUT.... then again after.... it will sting a little but it is the best.... btw it kills MRSA so anything else would be a doddle,

Magneisum sulphate paste is brilliant for drawing thorns splinters etc.... plop it on cover to keep moist give it 8 hours, replace with fresh application, should pull any infection forgone matter to the surface...having looked after 35 hunters for decades it is the best poultice.... and it is hard to beat the peroxide as a topical disenfectant, and way cheaper than a visit to the doctors, not to mention avoiding antibiotics so when you really need themtheywill work more effectively in my opinion....

worst mistake i ever made was trying to dig out a blackthorn !i even took a scalpel to it and nearly made my self pass out , ended up having surgery cos i pushed it deeper into a tendon ! ouch ! keep it clean if everything goes red go to the hospital !

Had a thorn go in quite deep, managed to extricate it and thought all was well, 4-5 days later the swelling and pain made me visit the local A&E.

Was immediately taken to have minor surgery, the tip had wedge in the bone and gone severely septic!
