This sounds like what's happening to my 2001 XLT turbo.belts are fine but when cold and I give it the revs it sounds like belts slipping. But having checked they are fine. Does what you say affect anything apart from may be a power issue:confused1:

Doesn't seem to - have a look around the exhaust manifold gasket area for evidence of soot. The gasket is around £40-50 and a bit awkward to fit, but does stop the squealing!

Getting a bit fed up with kit and the recomendations I have followed.

Q; whats the best 4x4 pick up for arb work/reliability?

A; Ranger, go for a Ranger bomb proof, best bet is a Ranger etc.

As soon as it throws a major wobbley.......... "thats the trouble with rangers" " should of got a hilux"

A bit like,

Q; best top handle saw?

A; Go for a t540xp, bomb proof, loads of power, smooth and easy to use, don't touch a 201t......

The day after I get one, all over arbtalk........... T540xp made of chocolate, fragile, running problems, get a 201t much better saw..........

And relax

Even what you have said and the very bad luck you have had with your ranger I would still say a ranger takes some beating for a all round vehicle for Arb/tree work. I think you have just been very unlucky and brought a wrong un from were and who ever you got it from, whether they new it had major problems when who ever sold it to you only they will know Rangers are very good. From 01 to bout 07/8 are the best with the very new ones just as good, the ones in between not so. You just been very unlucky. No consultation I know.
