Cat "d" stolen recovered.

Anyone know anything about these vehicles? The one I've seen was stolen by some bugger that got hold of the key, no damage,(to the vehicle).

I've read that the cat d will stick with the vehicle, and that it will be about 20% less than a "straight" motor. I've also read that insurance won't be affected ( much).

Do tell how you've got on.

Category D Repairable salvage. Minimal damage, probably not structural, but insurer does not want to repair, even though it might be economic to do so. Often stolen and recovered after claim has been paid. Or it maybe a vehicle where parts are difficult to obtain so a quick repair is unlikely. Does not need VIC inspection to return to road. Notification will appear in your vehicle history check

We have 2 cat D repairs. One is a £600 Fiat Punto for my 17 year old son and one is a very tidy 53 plate Discovery that does 4000 miles a year as a back up. Cat d are worth 20% less than normal and will put someone off when you come to sell but as long as they have been repaired properly there is no difference to any other vehicle that has had a minor repair. Ideal choice on a low value vehicle where the next owner could be the scrapman, ie a 17 year old driving a punto!!!!

I always used to buy them from a salvage yard and run for 5 or 6 years then swap. It was a cheap way of getting a modern motor. We've had a couple of cat C as well and done my own repairs on them, taken for VIC check no big problem. As long as you are not looking at them as a money making proposition it works out fine.

Not looking to make money out of it. Looking for a truck to drive til it dies.

This one is a 08 plate Navara. My brother as been through there today to look at it for me, he says its a good, straight motor....... We'll have to wait and see how the bidding goes.
