Dolmar

Right having had and been around 5 560xps that have had major issues I am considering a change of heart. Not overly happy with husky build quality for their cost. I love the speed/balance but its no good if it works only half the time.

Given the choice i would try a dolmar 6100, what is the price of one and also what is the echo equivalent?

 

is this saw capable of forestry felling every day flat out without being in the repairs shop every other week like i have experienced with the 560. I would buy a new saw yearly.......

Hi Shavey, i have the 115 and 7910 both nice saws, well the 7910 is i think the best saw ever for power to weight , great alternative to a 66 when climbing, i have mostly had Stihl in the past but the last ones did not last that well, so very pleased with the change. I liken the 115 to a ms260 , good little trimming saw, i did get a good deal on them , and postage was 10 euros, both 2014 saws.

 

great choice of saws there the 115 is good for most jobs a time proven design that has'nt changed in years

the 7910 is a brilliant saw in standard form great saw to port

For years, not knowing that Dolmar were still made , i thought Stihl - Husqvarn were the only choice, and to be fair they were great saws, but the last few years they have not lived up to there reputation , eu regs trying to comply with emissions and each other manufactures concepts has only produced rubbish saws. There is as far as i can see a great opportunity for Dolmar in the uk, as long as they don't try and compete with the more modern known brands. They still need to work on a reliable topper, i use a 338xp as a topper , and will try a 201 next time . as far as i have seen first hand the new Husky topper is total rubbish, thats from people who climb trees, not concept climb.

Dol 5105 is the 50cc choice

Dol 6100 vs Echo CS-620 - very tough call; prob the dol as it's lighter

Echo CS-360 topper is the one to watch.

 

So even stevens on 60cc'ers, dol wins the 50 and echo the topper

I've been let down more than once by my 550, snapped chain brake bands, a critical safety feature, it went back FOUR times in the first three months of owning it, new carb, new breather, new software, the list goes on. I barely used it and wished I'd not wasted my money on it. Now it's sorted it's great, but it wasn't worth the hassle and cost me money, it wasn't released as a professional saw, no matter what it is now!

 

This is a Dolmar and Echo thread, I don't want to hear about Husky, been there and done that.

Unfortunately - I think you are right:thumbdown:

 

Time may well improve these auto-tune machines but fuel system issues are one of the most common faults and it doesn't help having sealed units where you can't clean out any resins or shyte from the internals, non adjustable carbs are also a real issue.

 

Until these fuel systems are like the ones on your car, the reliability will always be an issue!

 

They are very clever at maximising torque and top end power but a lower powered saw is better than a non working one.

 

Glad your ported saw has proved to be reliable - all good:thumbup:
