I climb on an 10 mm diameter lanyard that i use but are wondering if i need to go back to 11 mm. What do other climbers use and is there an specific requirement for it to be a certain diameter? Thanks in advance.

I believe 11mm is the min. dia. for life support line in the UK.

 

8mm min. dia. for friction cord.

 

That said I know people who use 10mm on their lanyards with no issues.

Just started on a 6m piece of 13mm Yale XTC with 9mm VT and a pulley

I had 5mtr xtc first with micro pulley and v.t, now have 6mtr poison ivy with an art positioner

Got 6m velocity spliced into a swivel snap hook, with most if the tail daisy chained. 8mm OP with a distel and micro pulley.

 

Theoretically it's perfect, but in practice it's still too long and gets wrapped around my legs!

Anyone tried the sidewinder?

How much "tail" will coil up.

 

I took 2 strops up into a massive oak this week.. (Dead wooding) biggest I've done so far. Really tested my ability to climb and work efficiently in a very large canopy.

Although having the extra strop (teufelberger CE lanyard) helped, it also hindered me as well. Spent a lot of time untangling myself.

Next one (tomorrow ) I'm going to try and reduce the "clutter" in my system by using redirects rather than an extra strop.

I use a 10mm line for my work positioning lanyard, I used to always climb with a 10m lanyard with the tail stuffed into a hip bag, but have cut it down to 3.5m which I find is enough.

I think 11mm is consider good practice for a life line, I do not class a work positioning lanyard as a life line.

So when you're changing over anchor points what is stopping you from dropping out of the tree?
