Hello recently been using an 11mm rope xtc blaze and a 8mm op 90cm with the vt with 4 wraps 4 braids and it sometimes doesn't grip after tending slack?

Any tips?

Thanks :)

Ocean polyester ??? Never liked the stuff for its inconsistency with a VT unless it's tied very short, I liked liros and roblon but they burn out quick.

Never looked back since AP.

I found the same problem, but like Steve said I put a twist through the braids and it worked a lot better.

I am on 8mm op and 13mm Marlow gecko. 3 wraps and 3 braids.

For some reason I never had the problem using the VT on my side strop with same set up.

Same on the side strop mate. Grips immediately, every time.

I think it's because it's tied short, and would be a PITA to advance on a main system.

Back on Beeline 8mm now after a love/ hate with OP and it seems to suit my climbing style better.

I've always found its a trade off between slick advancement and bulletproof gripping no matter what I use.

Tradeoff is right..... Love the sport-ness of the VT but also like the grippy-ness of the eyetie hitch.

Only ever used op, I like its durability.

Got a zigzag coming in a couple of days :):)

What do you mean by a twist? Does anyone have pictures to help. I might go back the old prusik if I can't figure out a solution haha

By a twist (my version) I mean;

Tie a VT but simply twist the rope from the ends or the eyes before attaching to the krab.

This creates more stiffness and changes the characteristics of the hitch.

I think this is what Steve meant but not sure.

I've also included a pics of the eyetie hitch which is an excellent alternative to the VT.
