micro chippers- do they cut the mustard for day to day tree work???

Just about to put in an order for a greenmech cs 100.

Now, I don,t do tree work every day, probably about 40 percent, but having recently taken on a fair bit more I realise that mashing down on a trailer OR hiring a 6inch timber wolf is starting to kill quite a few jobs. I can't justify a new 6" chipper but at 5k a new cs 100 is more realistic, but, should I just stick to the trailer method or are these micro chippers actually quite good for general tree surgery/take downs ?

Having used a CS100 occasionally I would so they are not up to the job of day to day if the majority of your work includes removal from site. I have seen from this site that if you can persuade your customers to keep the arisings then the CS100 comes into its own as you can get it into back gardens.

Why not look for a used 6" machine?

Yep, you may be confirming my thoughts. Iv never used one so not entirely sure of their capabilities but a few threads seem to rate them highly on here.

I used to have a tracked 6" timber wolf which was great when working but because mine was starting to get quite old there was a fair bit of down time.

I certainly couldn't warrant a new 6" machine at the moment but the cs100 may be a good option just to get me through the next year or three until I build up more tree work to justify a bigger one.

Why don't you get one on Demo and put it through its paces, my dealer let me use one for couple days before I bought mine.

Dealer wasn't very helpful at all when it came to demoing it, he said they don't tend to demo the smaller machines:sneaky2:

If seen videos but can't really appreciate how good or bad they are from it.

Can't Pete B off here sort something demo wise for you?

I wouldn't part with your cash until you've tried one.

If you don't mind cutting up all forky stuff to feed easy then thats fine.If i was you put down what you got and have the rest on the drip for a bigger machine greenmech 130/150 if your work is already 40% tree work and growing all the time no probs. That way when you do your quotes your know that you have the machine that will do the job easier and faster.
