I would strongly suggest you have a look at gov.uk.

On there you can check to see what the current minimum wage is (at 26 should be £6.50ph). Also there is a really handy tool that you can use to determine if you are actually employed or self-self employed.

Don't be afraid to speak up to your "employer", the law is the law and we are all in the same boat and have to abide by it, both as employers, employees and the bonefide self employed.

 

Also have you checked with your local agricultural college or training provider? There is a whole lot of money in funding from the government and various bodies for chainsaw courses etc....

I think as a groundy dragging branches and chipping raking etc should be £60 full time employment, then and experienced groundy all of the above but hedgcutting, lowering, standard driving licence and ariel rescue £70 then second climber and all of the above £80 or £85 with a towing licence

But once you have your tickets and experience you will be able to make him more money, which in turn will mean you get more money. We've all got to start somewhere mate

 

How are tickets going to make the boss more money????

 

He's already letting him do the work without tickets, looks to me like he's just looking to work on the cheap :thumbdown:
