Am still kicking myself now ,thought i got away with it but no cough cough stop.

Refreshing to hear someone admit to making a silly mistake on a thread :)

Most of the time we try and make ourselves good !!! :) (I speak for myself of course). ;):)

Hope you sorted the damage.

I've done the same with vehicles more than once........

A bit of petrol in a diesel engine doesn't do much harm, diesel in a petrol engine isn't so good.

I know nowt about chipper engines but doubt they are too picky.

Mercedes even say to put a bit in (upto 10% I think) in winter.

Petrol in a diesel engine will do far more damage than diesel in a petrol engine. It will ruin the injectors, pre-ignite under compression and then trash the rest of the engine.

I wouldn't like to say which is worse but petrol actually resists pre-ignition, higher octane more so,whereas diesel ignites at a lower temperature. So for a premixed engine you want high autoignition temperature and low flash point and for a compression ignition engine you want the fuel to start burning as soon as it is injected.

I suspect diesel would not harm a petrol pump but neat petrol will not lubricate the diesel pump.

Diesel in the petrol engine is likely to detonate if it runs at all and this will soon ruin the engine.
