A well designed cutting edge on an 8 tonne machine can be as good as a badly engineered 13 tonne. We have a 3 phase sheppach 9 tonne which has been fitted with an 11hp honda. I like the 2 speed pump and the adjustable stops. The auto return is good

I agree, that a well designed 7 T machine can be better than a badly engineered 10T. I also Think that 7T is enough in here in northern europé in most of cases. I could be differnt in South America and Australia with harder logs, which might require more Power.

Not if your northern europe hardwood cordwood has lots of knots or is from big old trees! You should see some of the stuff our 13t thor is eating at the moment. theres a few lumps have made it stop and us look for another way through.

I think 7ton is enough in most cases. Of course knots and moisture can make it harder or maybe force you to re-position the piece a little bit. See this attached image which a copied from a forum. He uses a typical Swedish Faxes 7 ton logsplitter for this massive piece :001_smile:

I use a log elevator direct after my logsplitter to move away all splitted pieces and to be more efficient. As soon as the first piece is splitted you just continue with next one and they are all pushing on each other until they fall in the elevator.

The attached picture looks a little dangerous if you are standing to near the logsplitter :001_smile:

Mark have you bought one yet?? I think were both looking for the same thing.. Petrol driven though? The kiddie operating the wallensteins at the APF was a complete helmet and put me off.

I have mate, 7t Lawnflite petrol.

I am very impressed with the speed and power, it's gone straight through some gnarly bits I would have thrown on the crap pile.

Downside is loadability.

No way it will go up ramps without being on a garden cart, so I bought one as well but haven't used it yet.
