Any husky 254s still working everyday?

Tom d's 254 thread reminded me that I have my old 254xp in the shed.

 

Wasn't running quite right so got put away. Anyway is it worth getting it looked at and maybe ported? I did fit a new piston 5 years ago so may only need new seals etc.

 

Would love to use it again

One of our hand cutters uses a 154 se as his everyday felling saw, fantastic saw lots of power for it,s size.

One if the cutters I work with has one as his main go to saw. Even climbs with it instead of a top handle. (he has started borrowing my top handle as he moves into this century.)

 

It seems reliable as my more modern saw, yes he has down times but doesn't everyone?

 

But, my 550 xpg is a better saw in every respect except it seems more noisy.

Not 254's, but we use 242's and 42 specials still quite a bit, usually either scrub clearing or on arb jobs. On the whole still very reliable too.

There are different generations of 254s out there, and the last generation, made from 1994 an on, are the most attractive ones (different starter side, slightly higher power rating, and air injection).

i use mine for cutting xmas trees can do 2000 a day,fast light and dont mind getting wet(the saw i mean)jake

I've got three and still use them regularly , love them .

Legendary saw me thinks ! Oilers pack up from time to time thats about all . Big compression for small saw .
