Tom d's 254 thread reminded me that I have my old 254xp in the shed.

 

Wasn't running quite right so got put away. Anyway is it worth getting it looked at and maybe ported? I did fit a new piston 5 years ago so may only need new seals etc.

 

Would love to use it again

One if the cutters I work with has one as his main go to saw. Even climbs with it instead of a top handle. (he has started borrowing my top handle as he moves into this century.)

 

It seems reliable as my more modern saw, yes he has down times but doesn't everyone?

 

But, my 550 xpg is a better saw in every respect except it seems more noisy.

There are different generations of 254s out there, and the last generation, made from 1994 an on, are the most attractive ones (different starter side, slightly higher power rating, and air injection).
