tax discs and new law

Seems a lot of fuss about nothing, there is nothing we can do about it so we gotta just get on with it. People seen to get so worked up about thing over which they have no control. Why worry about other peoples issues, just bother about your own.

This is very true, everything is relative.

Over here our own localised vehicle licensing agency was shut down in July (with much hullaballoo) and we now deal directly with Swansea, on top of which they've empowered more post offices to do "over the counter" DVLA business when required. So far it's been a revelation, compared to our outfit the full blown UK system is so much simpler and with more changes to come from the start of October is set to get even better.

As an example, I've a collection of old/semi-vintage motorcycles all on SORN. I used to have to renew the SORN on each vehicle every year by post, now a vehicle remains a SORN permanently until you notify them otherwise. I also bought a secondhand car to add to the family car pool a few days ago, instead of an hour to travel to and queue at a government office, five minutes to the nearest post office and the job was done.

The refund thing really isn't a big deal, you'll probably spend half an hour haggling over a greater amount when you buy the relevant vehicle anyway so if that's one of the consequences of a generally better system, I'll take it.

Not often any government department improves anything!

this is it i do not think the DVLA have though out it properly and have just rushed this new system in. good point how can you tax it in your name if its still in the old owners name unless thats now done online. if not then a lot of cars etc may not get sold as who wants a car stuck off road waiting for the v5 to be changed

You take the V5 to the post office and tax it exactly the same as you do now

However the post office method is being phased out . Any way I wonder how many fleet owners will have a couple vehicles running on the same plates ? According to ANPR the vehicle is taxed

Yes they are sure to be queuing up for that, and a conviction for fraud, significant fine and or a spell in pokey when caught

I am pretty sure the powers that be have thought of that and primed the ANPR system to look out for the same truck passing a camera within minutes hundreds of miles apart

And you really think that will put off the criminals ?? Probably a fair reward for them . If ANPR really was that useful they would be able to reduce the increasing number of ringers on our roads . I'm fairly sure that I had recently read an article on how little information is shared by forces in England and Wales .

Panda yes the long term plan is for tax to be applied for on the tinterweb and paid for as a direct debit or in full , the post office are intended to see a phased reduction in in the requirement for the service and it is planned that by 2016 there will be zero DVLA enquiries handled by the post office

And of course you can back that claim up with official facts and figures cant you? The insurers are the ones who take a kicking on ringers, go to a salvage sale and try to buy a cat B write off.
