Size of firewood

What size firewood is most common in the UK? Varies here in Ireland at about 7-8 inches for firewood in net bags

People with wood burning stoves then look for anything from 12 to 15 inches and some special orders then for larger but not too often.

Just interested in what the market is cutting to.

Our most popular size is 10"-12" all by the m3. Nets look like a lot of hard graft for no extra money.

I agree, way easier to bulk load the tipper trailer and drop straight into a customer yard. Generally though retail sales through garages etc look for the net bags. There's good money in them but only for the retailer, not the wood supplier. Thanks for that info

6 inches is about the smallest it'll do, any smaller than that and the cut piece flies out. Main issue at the moment is the last section of the log, the clamp is about 6 inches wide and about 8 inches from the saw blade so the smallest you can go at the end is about 16 inches. Have ordered a second clamp to overcome this.

Great machine otherwise, pushing through about 3 cube an hour on very poor quality material from thinnings (size varies from 3 inch up to 18 inch diameter)

Been doing two sizes, 240mm for most stoves with maybe 10% at 200mm for the new generation of smaller stoves, these have tiny fireboxes.

No more than 150mm in any other direction on the 240mm and 125mm on the 200mm logs. That means quite a bit of second passes through the splitter.

Last winter I did sell around 20 cube of crated imported birch at 250mm and had no issues with it.
