Surely better to make biodiesel?, for a diesel engine.

Or for a stationary application simply rig a insulated fuel tank with a heater and run on Straight vegetable oil.

your roi on oil production is very little and more technical, sure if you have a plentiful waste stream but seeing as most folks here have a waste stream of medium sized bits of wood ..

Esp. for forestry makes sense powering your operations with waste products.

I was thinking a small tractor with a nice perkins etc diesel on it with a ****** fuel system but otherwise all good, requires conversion to run on spark ignition with high compression ratio and the most fiddly bit is the controls for your 'carburetor'. But all together not too implausible and plenty of open source designs out there. see GEK -

Have a bulletproof PTO generator and biomass chunker and a few acres of medium rotation coppice and you're pretty set up for when the oil runs out .. :thumbup1:

Some of the older era tractors were petrol weren't they? Surely you'd be better off with one of those, assuming they can be converted more easily and will provide enough grunt for your needs. Failing that, stationary engine maybe? There are plenty of videos on youtube of Americans running pickups with wood gas. The whole pile of processing kit in the back does look a bit silly but if it works and it's free...

has anybody seen one in the uk or even better used one pros cons i aint sure if they are in the uk for safety issues cheers

Many thanks for this post. I had been looking for an easy way to process my SRT Willow coppice and this is it. I have bought a basic mechanism from a company in Poland and the quality of the engineering is second to none. Very pleased, works a treat on my "crap" chinese tractor:thumbup1:

Can I ask roughly how much you paid? And what's the biggest diameter it will chop? Also, how.many HP is your tractor? Thank you.

Do they have a website?

It the other thread on this. I think there was a link to a foreign webpage with £900 or euros.

I would be interested in pursuing this as well with my own design. I would want to refine the finished product in the design. No crud and leaves, that could be composted seperately.

We've just bought one of the Welmac TR110 branch logger. They are £6.5k, but they are CE marked, approved by the HSE and adequately guarded. They are rapid to say the least. The product we are calling log nuggets are very good burners, hot and if hardwood long lasting in stoves. Better still you utilise material that would be otherwise left on the forest floor or chipped. So far we have been very pleased with the TR110 and the product.

cheers
