Best 14" saw for cutting cordwood?

Hi just got a few loads of cordwood in and was looking to invest in a new saw.. I have a. Ms180 which would problaby do it but don't want to burn it out,, thanks

i would go with a 50/60 cc saw, theres a nice jonsered 2250 on the bay for £359 brand new, same as husky , just red, be rude not to

Saws shouldn't be "measured" by the bar length they come with, but some people do - resulting in saw brands offering cheap and weak small saws with way too long bars on them.....

 

The above is most common in the US market, but it happens elsewhere as well.

 

Also, the bars in 3/8" picco/lo-pro/hobby/mini that fit the cheap (and other small) saws all are 1-2 inches shorter that the "called" length. As 14" (called) bars only come in that pitch (not in .325 or regular 3/8"), I assume that is what you had in your mind.

 

If you are serious about cutting firewood, you likely want a better saw than those that are rated by their bar length by the seller (and much better than the MS180)!

Disregarding the 14" thing, and thinking 15" instead - the best would be the 346xp (if you still can find one) and the 550xp (that replaced the 346xp) - not much doubt about that!

As stated in many posts elsewhere, 346xp is a pleasure to use for long sessions. I bought a second one whilst I could.

What would actually burn out the MS180? Would it be the duty time cutting up a large amount of wood, or the thickness of the logs being cut? I have a large amount of cordwood to cut up (Leylandii) with my MS211 - I wouldn't have considered that I would burn it out doing the job.
