I've had one for 6 months now and it has covered 120k, I've done 8k.

Doesn't cost me any more to maintain than anything else I have had (Mercedes ML, defender, Audi's). When people talk body off it isn't an issue. The disco is designed with a quick release body that one man can remove in 4 hours which makes jobs easier and in some cases quicker. However the body would only have to come off to resolve a major issue, just about everything else can be done (all be it a bit fiddly) with the body on.

My discovery had new bottom arms at 80,000 miles, it weighs 2.8 tonne and gives a magic carpet ride so something has to give on UK roads.

I would have another in a flash. I have just come back from Stranraer in mine. 250 miles none stop and you get out as fresh as you get in. It will cruise all day at any speed you want and is also happy with a decent load on the tow ball.

We run TwoD3's at work which tow our equipment constantly, they have 98 & 102 miles on the clocks. It's true the bodies have to come off for belt change but we found a company that can do it by feel alone. We have had bushes etc & the suspension through a wobbly because there are too many electrics but it's a good bus.

One is manual & one is auto, the auto is starting to show signs of gearbox trouble now but they work hard for a living. I think you can have a good one or a bad egg personally.

As I posted earlier Jon, cam/timing belt is under £300.

My air suspension compressor became weak, new one would cost over £600, but my mechanic (an independent) got a kit from LD, cost £150 including fitting.

I think the LR dealers stitch people up, find yourself a good independent and your fine :thumbup1:

Jon, a landy specialist will do belts easily and possibly cheaper than a cheapo corner garage who doesn't know what they're doing.

The air compressor is probably the most expensive "common" issue. Later ones and any replacement compressors are upgraded and no problem.

The handbrake gears are common apparently, but not expensive.

That's quite reassuring, the one I tried was a 55 plate done 118000 miles it's a manual what I prefer there doesn't seem to be many manual disco 4's?

I did hear the handbrake slightly binding but apparently cleaning the brake dust out cures this?
