Monkey puzzle tree .

I have a monkey puzzle tree in the front garden, we have Been in the property for two years and understand the tree has been here for over twenty five years. Some of the branches have gone brown also there appears to be some mould on some of the branches. This week two seed pods have dropped with loads of seeds falling to the lawn. Any advice on how to treat this wonderful tree. See photographs. I have I have managed to attach. Ian

not an expert on these but i believe the lower branches brown die and fall of as the tree gets taller and older.

 

the cones sound like they have just shed their seeds and drop off anyway but as you say they are full of seeds could have been got at by a bird.

 

as i say i'm no expert so i may be completely wrong but i don't think there is anything badly wrong with the tree itself.

From the pic above looks a healthy tree to me

Nice specimen. The pics appear to show nothing amiss. When it matures - many years from now - there'll just be that classic Monkey Puzzle tuft of foliage at the top of a long straight stem.

Your mould is just lichen, and as said before, lower branches brown off and die as the tree gets taller - like the attached photo. Looks a healthy tree, enjoy it.

Your tree looks healthy to me, the seed balls ripen and the seeds fall out, it's how it works. As mentioned, the mould is actually lichen, there are millions of trees covered in different lichens all over the uk. The dying/dead branches are normal too, it's the tree shedding the less important or less productive limbs

i considered saying it may be lichen but as there was no picture i did not comment.
